How to Prevent Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

After news broke about 60 kids dying in Cambodia due to Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, parents became aware of the disease and what’s the worst thing that possibly can happen from the infection.

According to research, HFMD causes fever, sore throat, body ache, sores in and on the mouth, feet and buttocks; and body ache. Thus, causing a lot of discomfort for children.

Hand, foot and mouth disease have high incident rates on children below 10 years old. Although, there are some cases where adults get the hand, foot and mouth disease.

Here are the best ways to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease:

  1. Teach your kids proper hand sanitation.
  2. Practice what you teach.
  • Proper hand washing.
  • Application of rubbing alcohol or alcohol-based hand sanitizer can eliminate disease-causing germs from your hands. 
  • If soap and water are unavailable, it’s best to use hand sanitizer, with at least 60 percent alcohol-content to eliminate germs and viruses.
  • Assure that alcohol can be accessible in your homes, offices and even daycare centers.
  • Clean surfaces and objects like door knobs , mobile phones, toys, shared objects using bleach or 70 percent solution of rubbing alcohol
  • Sanitize your hands after activities like after going to the toilet, before and after food preparation, after diaper change, etc.
  • Prevent sharing of utensils with infected people
